2. How CYNSUS Uses Cookies

CYNSUS uses a limited number of cookies and local storage entries to operate the Platform. We categorize them as follows:

Essential / Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are required for the Platform to function and cannot be disabled. They enable core functionality such as user authentication, session management, and security protections. Without these cookies, you would not be able to log in or use authenticated features of the Platform.

• Authentication session tokens — Managed by Supabase (our authentication provider) to maintain your logged-in session securely
• CSRF protection — Tokens that protect against cross-site request forgery attacks
• Security cookies — Used to detect and prevent fraudulent activity and unauthorized access

Functional Cookies and Local Storage

These cookies and local storage entries remember your preferences and choices to provide a more personalized experience. They do not track your activity across other websites.

• Theme preference — Remembers whether you prefer light or dark mode (managed by next-themes)
• Tour completion status — Tracks which onboarding tours you have completed so they are not shown again
• Language and display preferences — Stores your preferred language and interface settings

Analytics and Monitoring

We use Vercel Analytics to understand how users interact with the Platform in aggregate. Vercel Analytics is privacy-focused and cookieless — it does not set cookies and does not track you across sites. It collects anonymized, aggregated data about page views and web vitals performance metrics.

We also use Sentry for error and performance monitoring. When an error occurs, Sentry collects technical information about the event (such as browser type, operating system, the page you were on, and the error details) so we can diagnose and fix problems. Sentry does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Advertising and Third-Party Tracking Cookies

CYNSUS does not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party tracking cookies of any kind. We do not sell, share, or provide your browsing data to advertisers or data brokers. We do not use services such as Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any similar advertising-oriented tracking technology.

4. Third-Party Cookies

CYNSUS relies on a limited number of third-party services that may set cookies on your device:

• Supabase — Our authentication and database provider. Supabase sets cookies necessary to manage your authenticated session. These are strictly essential cookies. For more information, see Supabase's Privacy Policy.
• Vercel — Our hosting and deployment provider. Vercel may set cookies related to performance monitoring and analytics. These cookies are anonymized and do not track individual users across sites. For more information, see Vercel's Privacy Policy.
• Sentry — Our error- and performance-monitoring provider. Sentry collects technical event data when errors occur so we can fix them. It does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. For more information, see Sentry's Privacy Policy.

We do not use cookies from advertising networks, social media platforms, or any other third-party tracking services. We do not permit third parties to place tracking cookies on the Platform for their own purposes.

5. How to Manage Cookies

You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

• View what cookies are stored on your device and delete them individually or in bulk
• Block all cookies or only third-party cookies
• Configure your browser to notify you when a cookie is being set
• Set your browser to automatically delete cookies when you close it

To clear local storage entries, you can use your browser's developer tools (typically accessible via F12 or right-click > Inspect > Application tab > Local Storage).

6. Impact of Disabling Cookies

If you choose to disable or block cookies, please be aware that certain features of the Platform may not function correctly:

• Authentication will not work — You will be unable to log in or maintain a session. All authenticated features (bill tracking, alerts, saved searches, Cynthia, and account management) require session cookies.
• Theme preferences will not persist — The Platform will revert to the default theme on each visit.
• Onboarding tours will repeat — Without local storage, the Platform cannot remember which tours you have completed, and they may be shown again on subsequent visits.
• Demo mode settings will reset — If you are using the Platform in demo mode, your selected role and plan will not persist between page loads.

Essential cookies cannot be disabled while using the authenticated portions of the Platform. If you block these cookies, you will only be able to access public, unauthenticated pages.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our use of cookies, changes in applicable law, or improvements to the Platform. When we make material changes, we will:

• Update the "Last Updated" date at the bottom of this page
• Post the revised policy on the Platform
• Notify registered users of material changes via email or in-platform notification where appropriate
